Teacher Mike. How To Use 'Consider'
[Previous] - [Next]
Today we are going to look-at three ways that you can use consider. And consider is basically the same as think-about. But there are two ways that we use think-about. And one of them is the same as consider. One of them is not the same. So first let's take-a-look-at think-about. I'm thinking-about my mother. That just means right now my mother is in my thoughts. Okay? So that's the first way that we can use thinking-about. But we can also use thinking-about when we are thinking-about a decision, something that maybe we should do or we shouldn't do. For example, I'm thinking-about learning spanish. That means I'm trying to decide whether-or-not I should learn spanish. I might do it, I might not do it. I'm thinking-about it right now. And this think-about is the same as consider. So you can say I'm thinking-about learning spanish or you can say I'm considering learning spanish. Another example, I'm considering taking-a-nap. I feel a bit tired. I might take-a-nap. But right now I'm still trying to decide whether-or-not it's a good idea. I might do it, I might not do it. I'm considering it. So here consider means think-about doing something. Think-about. Whether-or-not you should do it, whether-or-not it's a good idea, if someone asks you to help them and you don't want to promise anything right now, you don't want to say yes, I 100% promise that I will help you. But you don't want to say no. You could say, I'll consider it. I'll consider it means I will think-about it and give you an answer in the future. So this is the first way that we can use consider to mean think-about doing something the other way. Or one of the other ways that we can use it is when we say, I consider you a friend or I consider you a brother, I consider you family. This means the way that I think-about you is the same as the way that I think-about my friend or my brother or my family. So when someone says, I consider you family, that means you're not my family. But in my heart and in my mind, you are my family. I consider you family. So that's the second way that we can use consider. The final way that I want to talk about it in this video is an expression. Consider-it-done. Consider-it-done means you can trust me. I'm going to do it. Don't worry. I will do it. If your boss says, can you do this? I need you to do this by tomorrow. You can say, consider-it-done. Consider-it-done means right now, in your mind, it's done. It's done. Trust me, it's done. I will do it. You can count-on me. You can rely-on me to do it. Consider.
